bSpeak Features
bSpeak has loads of features that make it powerful and easy to use for both administrators and for forum users. Below you will find descriptions of many of bSpeak's main features, but there is much more to this messageboard than what is explained in this list. If you want to see the power and functionality first-hand, check out the bSpeak Demo Forum and give it a test drive for yourself!

General Features
• Fully threaded display
The fully-threaded, heirarchical display allows for fast-paced, easy to follow conversations. Since quick replies can be entered in just the subject line, the threaded format frequently saves on bandwidth, since the entire post does not have to be opened in order to follow the discussion. The threaded view facilitates community-building since users can reply directly to each other in a visually logical manner.

• Virtually unlimited number of forums
You can create as many forums as you'd like in order to organize your community discussions or to create separate communities for different purposes. Each forum can be administered individually.

• Fast, bandwidth-friendly performance
The threaded format of bSpeak uses little bandwidth while providing a fast-paced discussion forum. Users will be pleased with quick page load times and easy navigation.

Administrative Features
• Complete administrative interface
Control almost every aspect of bSpeak's operation and appearance through the administrative interface. The simple, logical administrative screens make it simple for even novice computer users to have complete control over the forum's setup.

• Group-based permissions
Access to forums and forum features can be controlled by a powerful group-based permission structure. Assign permissions to a group and then add users to that group to give them access to the features and functionality that you want. You can create a virtually unlimited number of groups, so you are not limited in the security configurations you can create.

• Configurable user profiles and titles
Users can optionally enter information to let other users know a bit about themselves, including contact information and a signature line. User titles can be configured by the administrator (individually or globally) to show a user's status (New Member, Veteran Member, etc).

• IP or username banning
Administrators can ban users by IP address or username using the administrative screens. The ban list can be edited at any time.

• Profanity Filter
Administrators can configure "bad word" replacements on a forum-by-forum basis to replace profanity or other hot-button words and phrases. With wildcard matches, the list can be as precise or as broad as needed.

• Automatic or manual archiving of old messages
You can have messages older than a specified number of days automatically archived or you can manually archive messages via the administrative screens. Archived messages are still available for viewing and searching, but no new responses can be added to an archived message. Archiving old messages keeps the display of current messages very fast.

• Pin, hide, and lock threads
The administrator can pin threads so they remain at the top of the message list, hide threads, and lock threads so no responses can be added. Each action can be assigned individually to a group's permissions, allowing for various levels of flexibility for moderators.

• Delete Individual Messages
Administrators can assign permissions to groups allowing them to delete specific messages instead of entire threads.

• Simple integration into your own website
bSpeak is quite possibly the easiest forum software to actually integrate into your website. There is no need for use of complicated themes, stylesheets, or other mechanisms. "Integrate" means that bSpeak will become an actual page in your website, not a separate site with a similar color scheme.

In addition to integrating bSpeak visually into your site, you can also choose to use your own user registration system. If users already log into your system for access, they won't have to create a separate login for your forum!

User Features
• Built-in private messenging
Users can send private messages to each other via the built-in messenging system. They can also opt to receive notification emails to their regular email address when they receive a new private message on the forum. It's an easy way for forum participants to communicate without posting information they might not want on the open forums.

• User-specified time-zone
Users in a time-zone other than where the site is located can specify that all post times appear with their local time, rather than the server time.

• Powerful yet simple search functionality
Users can search for messages in any or all forums based on the keywords they specify. The search form is simple to use, yet powerful enough to perform detailed searches.

• User-controlled ignore list
Users can put specific users on an ignore list if they do not wish to see posts by those specific users. The ignore list can be modified at any time by each user.

• Collapsible Threads
Users can expand and collapse threads for ease of viewing.

• Selectable Pre-filled Subject Line
Users can specify whether they want the subject line of new messages to automatically be filled out with the subject line of the previous message.

• Mark posts as read
Users can mark all posts as having been read at any time. An indicator in the forum list will show them which forums have new messages. This is an especially useful feature for threaded message boards since many messages do not require opening to follow the conversation.
